Nonfilms - Lorraine



Recorded in the early 1980's.

Linda and I always were blown out at what people would do and how easy it was to move far beyond the normal inhibitions to joyful freedom.  This is a case in point.  At the beginning she had us shut off the camera when she was changing costumes.  And if you look closely, you can see her friend trying to be invisible!  But shortly into it Lorraine and I are on the bed together playing nude erotically together, giggling joyfully. The Uncomfortable Zones Of Fun, January 22, 2011

This one shows the possibilities of going all the way into sexy aroused fun when everybody takes personal responsibility for going all the way!

Well, the first performance of the year was the kind that would spoil me if I expected every performance or most performances to reach the depths of this one!  Everything went there!  In my performances there is an invisible hidden secret state of erotic friction of arousing human intimacy rubbing between bodies without limits or glamour.  Because it is invisible, you can not see it, only feel it.  For example,   we didn’t enter that state at the performance at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco last summer, even though that was very erotic, visual, communal, tribal, etc.  In fact, we last entered that state last February at Temescal.

The first couple to arrive actually set the tone, anchored /rooted the performance.  The guy, Bobby, did that just by being there.  Vicki turned out to be an actor.  Her reading /acting out my poems throughout opened the door into the holy madness.  Everything worked!  It was possible to do a lot of the rituals [GESTURES, ROCKING, DRESSING, PROJECTING SLIDES ON NUDE DANCERS, etc] that have either set upon the shelf or haven’t reached the depths of arousing unknowns for awhile.  And new rituals were introduced [UNDRESS THE CAMERAMAN, THE SIAMESE WAIST BANDS, TAKING /READING NOTES, etc].  There was just the right amount of resistance so that important issues could be explored, and to reveal that zones of comfort are silly and really prisons.  [I am imagining the shit about being a homophobe a straight guy would get if he gave the reasons for not wanting to undress the cameraman that the Lesbian gave!] But Amy and her friend stepped up and by being actively lustfully abandoned willing to play and trust, broke everything open for everybody.  And they did it as just fun, no big deal.  I liked exploring his butt!  Everything started floating into that juicy secret space as Amy started rocking on my lap, prickly freedom going all the way into both fusion and infusion of arousing magical pleasure erotic friction of comfort.  Tomek’s surreal music created waves connecting the holy dancers together as they [us] webbed and flowed into different combinations and forms and roles without limits or judgments.  Amy and her friend [he obviously hadn’t done anything like this before!] made it possible by simply trusting…  Trusting so deeply, they could reshape the dance without avoiding anything.  A whole band appeared at this point to join Tomek [they would disappear when the dance was over!]!  Things got hot and surreal, while staying simple and human.  Intimacy, closeness among everybody who stayed welded us into a cozy tribal body.  Our skin [the organ of connection] webbed all of us together as the rubbing went all the way deeper into calm pleasure, as Vicki threw herself on the floor and rocked and belted out the words of the poem.  I wish I could take credit for creating such a dramatic, erotic turn-on of an event.  But I just followed the possibilities that the willingness people brought to the space created.

This workshop /performance series came in between after losing our second performance series at university of California Berkeley in the 00's and finding an artistic home at Temescal art center in Oakland.  We could not find any space to rent for performances.  Yoga joints would not rent to me because of the nudity, never mind that Yoga historically was done nude!  I was whining about this to my two guests on my Berkeley community public access cable show.  They were ex- corporate yuppies who now ran a new age sex center in San Francisco.  They offered me a home for performances /workshop.

The Uncomfortable Zones Of Fun, December 17, 2010

Ah, the last performance of the year and the first full out performance since May when I almost died.  It is like riding a horse or a bike [I have done both]…  You never forget how to do it, they say.  But the large crowd tested that theory.  Usually when it is stormy outside, we don’t get many people.  It is the same for over the holidays.  But both didn’t keep people away this time.  So I was faced with a rug full of people eager to play.  It was like sitting down to a complex instrument, trying to figure out how  to play it.  And drums and violins appeared in the audience to play with Kene-J and Mark [where was Tomek?].  But there were too many possibilities within the crowd, so it took most of the time opening the packages so to speak, and we were just getting started playing when it was time to wrap it up [and it was a very satisfying powerful wrap up!].  There was a lot that happened.  But it was the tip of the iceberg.  That is why it is a series!  If I was driven by my own expectations, judgments, bits I have thought of years ago but time/space for which has not appeared yet, etc, I would get in the way of the performance.  My main job of the night was to guide things away from casual, social, judgments, and other blocks to getting deeper.  It worked.  We curved away from “democracy” where people vote on their judgments and desires, curved into the tribal body where serious fun could occur, which was why most people were there.

The 1st Outrageous Beauty Contest, Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco, California, 1978

A couple of weeks ago we here discovered in our closet a box filled with reel to reel videos of our performances from the seventies.  We thought they were stolen.  So nobody has watched this for about thirty four years!  we just received this back from the transfer place.

This is the very first OUTRAGEOUS BEAUTY CONTEST which was the seed for the OUTRAGEOUS BEAUTY REVUE [see http://vimeo.com/24485912].  This was supposed to be a one time event.  But we filled the legendary San Francisco punk club the Mabuhay, and the first two rows were photographers!  So during the show, the Mabuhay's manager dirk Dirksen pressured me into announcing I would do a weekly show.

I wanted to do a really outrageous show.  But, although I collected  thousands of dollars in prizes from the bay area stores, etc, I could not get real contestants who would be as outrageous as I wanted.  So I planted members of my troop to up the intensity.  They couldn't win the contest.  See if you can tell which they are!  I think this is one of the most outrageous shows ever!

Funny.  Saturday’s crowd was the polar opposite of last month’s crowd.  Last month people came willing to risk and go into risks that were uncomfortable in the way expanding is uncomfortable.  They did it because they wanted to get to the deeper freedom and fun which they realized was beyond what is now popularly called COMFORT ZONES.  So they took personal responsibility for doing whatever was needed to get there.  And in doing that, a magical fun was created within a real flexible comfort which was not limited by fragile zones!  I really didn’t have to do much!

But Saturday most of the people seemed to have come to be entertained with tricks which would somehow lead to them being transformed in someway without them having to do something, having to go through being uncomfortable, risking, pushing, etc.  So they kept saying NO…  I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT!  Not all did this.  A few pushed themselves and had fun!  But most didn’t put their chips into the experience.  This is especially true of the people who had come before and had a fun, life-changing experience.  They came back to have another amazing experience.  But they weren’t willing to give, to push on from what they did last time, even to read GESTURES!  So for them, things obviously felt flat.  They would have ignored this flat feeling.  But I stopped the performance to heighten this flat feeling!  To have a transforming experience, you need to put yourself into the pot!  And I know when to play ‘em, when to fold ‘em, when to walk away, and when to run…  Especially when this performance series is clearly becoming a popular thing to go to, I will play some poker!

This video of a rehearsal for OUT OF ISOLATION when I directed it as a play is one of the most warmly erotic things I have done.  In fact the whole rehearsal process with Corey as Jim [my role in the film] and Bonnie as Jane was always deeply erotic.  But when they got on stage [where I as the director was powerless] most of the erotic juice disappeared.  This rehearsal was in between the two weekends of the play.  Obviously the erotic juice appeared again for this rehearsal!

The so-called comfort zones are really the opposite of real comfort.  The zones are rigid prisons of fragile gated limits of eggshell fragility of fear and weakness.  They create isolation, separation, and fascism.  Real comfort is the relaxed ability to absorb, adapt, and play with anything that comes up in life and work with it in creating fun. This is outside the fragile zones.  What people mistaken for uncomfortable as they leave the zones is really freedom. But going in and out of the zones is addictive and drains possibilities away from not just you, but from everybody. This is why it is extremely important to accept personal responsibility to keep pushing beyond the “comfortable zones” into what at first appears to be difficult but which will melt into the doorway to the next dimension of pleasure! Well, after all, isn’t that why you came [and keep coming back] in the first place?

Bob Madigan Memorial Hootenany & Seance, March 11, 2012 - Cherotic All-Stars set

The whole night was magical.  But things really started calling Bob back from wherever he now is when Annie narrated slides [mostly of naked Bob].  And then the FLUFF GRRL remaining members with the ashes of Bob blew everybody away.

In our tradition, FLUFF GRRL members joined my CHEROTIC ALL-STAR BAND with a lot of other CHEROTIC vets for a huge jam which was the deepest, the most powerful CHEROTIC jam ever.  To start I sang DANNY BOY and BOBBY’S GIRL [of course I was nude] to Bob.  And then the musicians piled onto the stage and spilled off in front of the stage.  Nude Linda and Erika joined me and things got hot and explicit, and Annie helped Bob suck my cock throughout the jam!  Actually I saw Bob at different points of the jam.  Actually I had two shifts of hot babes singing with me [and Peppe].  At one point the jam seemed to be winding down.  So Linda and Erika got off the stage to get me down.  But the band didn’t want to stop [after all it might be the last time!]!  So Annie and Stacy sang with me [kept kissing me!].  We segued into some of Bob’s favorite songs.  Like always, the jam lasted until most of the audience had left!  I think Bob was impressed that we cleared a room one more time!

The Uncomfortable Zones Of Fun, March 3, 2012

Saturday’s performance can be called THE INVASION OF THE NO PEOPLE.  They came, according to them, because of the possibilities of SEX, SHAMANISM, and NUDE DANCING GIRLS [a woman gave the last as the motivation for her coming].  They had watched videos of past performances.  So they knew what they were getting into.  But they were not willing to do anything, even helping Linda to undress me!  I have been getting people to undress me at performances for decades with no problem.  But now people have forgotten that you get what you are willing to give.  And if you want nude dancing girls, take your clothes off!  They didn’t get much from the performance AND THEY WERE SATISFIED WITH THAT!  This low expectation is extremely disturbing.  Even though they watched videos of past performances, they used my videoing the performance as their reason for their NOs.  Again I have been videoing the performances for decades with no problem.  Any bets that they would open up if I turned off the camera?  And I can’t let fear dictate the performance.  Two college guys said they could only stay until nine o’clock to get home safely!  After years of playing at punk clubs and performance spaces in the dangerous parts of town, we are performing in a good neighborhood.  You are in deep shit if you are in your twenties and are that afraid!

At least Tomek played great music!

This is an episode of GOING DEEP TO THE CORE AT RAMEN WITH FRANK MOORE which was a hard core music public access cable show.  Once a month we shot at the illegal punk club THE BURNT RAMEN in the dangerous Richmond, California the sets of two to four bands plus my interviews with the bands.  At the end of the shooting night I gathered all the bands into my CHEROTIC ALL-STAR BAND for a jam.  For this night, Bob Madigan of FLUFF GRRL fame was playing in a duet MAN VS. NATURE.  This explains why he and Ann are in the jam.  This weekend Bob passed to that ultimate jam!

Ah, yes!  The new punked up flier worked!  It scared off the middle of the road people who want to be entertained, want a show for their night out, want to be passive with the illusion of risk within complete shells.  It may have scared off the good reviews in THE HUFFINGTON POST, etc.  But it did attract risk takers willing and ready to actively participate, explore, experience, experiment, improvise, play, etc.  So this night was very satisfying!  And people kept coming in all night!  I felt like a bartender!  The night kept going in different directions, sometimes in several different directions at once, all to the music of Kene-J [aka MY SON] and sometimes with Jason on sax.  We went through panic attacks, lame theater games, relationship fireworks which cleared some of the audience out, and into juicy erotic states.  I kept asking probing questions in my sit-down comic act on which several people commented.  I had a complex, deeply emotionally rich group of adventurous spirits to play with.  And I learned a lot.  For example, the guy who came off the street near the end of the three hours [he was just walking by and saw I was performing inside], informed me that in the 00s when he saw my jams in San Francisco, they called me THE KING OF THE LEATHER DISTRICT!  You learn something everyday!

I have a firm policy of videoing any time the press interviews me so I have a complete record of what I said which I can broadcast if there are distortions in the article...  Putting pressure on the journalist to get it right!  This interview was for the in-depth cover story about me in THE EAST BAY EXPRESS, the local weekly paper.  Both the interview and the article were juicy and meaty.  For the cover they used Annie Sprinkle's photo of nude body painted Linda standing beside me.  For a week that photo was on every street corner in the East bay with a big photo spread of our nude performances inside!  Although I lost some gigs from people freaking out after seeing the article, it was worth it!

I like challenges! This even goes more for those who belong to the cult of shrinks who have signed a loyalty oath to the established order! Don’t get me wrong. I like their coming! I like challenges! But then when they get righteous, then complained about nothing much happened! And they said they came to give up control in order to get to spontaneity! And of course they blamed me for their experiencing nothing much happening. In reality a lot happened!. Hot musical duets… Undressing… Shyness faded! Of course there was much more that could have happened. I remained dressed! Need I say more? Going on a long trip without your husband to cure the boredom with him! Saying you are too tired to give yourself or to have fun! Saying WELL, YOU CAN GET INTIMACY OR WHATEVER WITHOUT NUDITY [remember, intimacy is the state of being together without boundaries or limits; so it is possible to have intimacy without nudity IF THERE IS A WILLINGNESS TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES… So if someone says WELL, YOU CAN GET INTIMACY WITHOUT NUDITY, that means that nudity is definitely needed if you want real intimacy].

This was an historic performance in many ways.  It turned out to be our last six hour performance.  [In my younger days I did forty eight hour performances!] This also turned out to be the last time I got on the mat at the performances.  But I made it a good ending by introducing TANSEX by playing hot explicitly with Alex.  Also this was Erika’s very first performance of mine!  In fact the audience was full of cast members going back to the OUTRAGEOUS BEAUTY REVUE days…  Even Extreme Elvis in his CLARK KENT persona brought a hot babe to impress!

it really is hard to write about because it was a nonlinear night that created itself...on the surface nothing much happened for hours....me drinking water, talking to people who packed the small [great] space. they arrived on time...that never happens...so i didn't have time before they came. no assholes came...or came in...on the video of it you can hear assholes outside the door all through the night, but they never came in...the force field worked! inside, the web was there from the beginning...all of us wanted to go deep and small, revealing. so i sat without my board, linda translating me/feisto. a room of amazing people telling/revealing their stories. nude teresa throughout  the night kept going from person to person, feeling/touching under clothes beyond taboos, using her blindness to weave a web of comfort. she was the base line. actually the performance was rooted, made possible, expanded from my explorations with teresa, alex, jennifer, and erika over the last year.

there was always a lot of small things happening all the time in a relaxed reality....so we sat around eating chocolate cake, teresa crawling exploring bodies, a woman going around collecting piss, blood, hair, and i don't know what else for a magical art package as a kid's musical toy played as a guy described passionately the chrome fucking machine he was making for the dadafest. and that was the "intermission break" if we were in theater rather than a communal trance. i swear, i was trapped sunday for 6 hours watching the video of the night...i couldn't move! very near the end of the performance night, alex and i played very deep erotic small human rubbing into each other's body rocking as my story MAGICAL CAVE LOVERS was played on tape and slides of my 30 years of performances were projected on the wall. [funny...i saw on the video that people didn't watch alex and me, but were focused on the slides.] alex and me were a powerful generator of possibilities in the whole night, combining with teresa's exploring throughout the night. at the middle of the performance, i asked teresa, alex, and erika to talk about their working with me and how it has effected their life work. they talked very deeply, pulling the whole performance in much deeper...so deep it made it possible to do the ritual that we always had done before within the hidden/secret cave of lila. the whole room became the cave of lila. this made it possible to video this ritual. it hasn't been possible to video this ritual before. it is extremely beautiful, melting bodies together...at the end there are magical shots of hands moving/dancing together.

The Uncomfortable Zones of Fun, November 19, 2011

Well, this one was perfectly cast to observe and confront what I call THE COMBINE PLOT.  In the late eighties I wrote: 

It is important to understand the nature of the general plot of fragmentation, the combine plot.  I took the word "combine" from the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey.  In the book, the combine is a fear machine network which secretly installed pacemakers of fear, doubt, and mistrust in almost everyone in childhood.  This made people much easier to control.  It isolates people into cells padded with fear and doubt, making the people part of the combine.  There are some misfits whom the combine missed with its fear pacemakers.  In others, the fear pacemakers blow their fuses.  These people without the fear pacemakers are very dangerous to the combine because if they are not checked, destroyed, discredited, isolated, or enfolded into the combine, they can show others how to blow out their own fear pacemakers, can show others how to be free humans linked to other free humans.  The combine rarely has to directly destroy the misfits itself.  Just direct eliminations would reveal the existence of the combine.  So such direct eliminations are kept to the minimum.  The real tool of the combine is a vague sense of uncomfortableness, of inferiority, and of mistrust within the victims of the combine.  The setting of the novel is a mental ward in which most of the patients are self‑committed.  They believe themselves weak, unable to cope with the outside world.  They believe the fear comes from themselves, not from the pacemakers.  They just have to start believing in themselves, and they could pull out the pacemakers and walk out of the hospital.  But every time they reach this threshold of freedom, the combine, by clever remote manipulation, turns up the vague uncomfortableness and mistrust.  The victims themselves do the destroying of the misfit either in themselves or that con man pied piper who laughs at their fears and limits, who shows them the way to freedom.  It is the victims who do most of the censoring.

One of the main functions of art is to be that misfit who reveals and fights against the combine, to show the way back to freedom and self‑trust.  

In the audience there were a group of four young psych students who had basically been forced to sign a loyalty oath to The Combine Plot to go to school.  They had internalized this as a fear that if they violated the loyalty oath in ways they couldn’t pin down, they would be kicked out of the school.  Their fear of undressing me became a tool for examining this box of “PROFESSIONALISM”.  Also there were a couple of professors who train social workers.  At one point the female professor told us that typically students have to  unlearn around fifty percent of what they learned in college after college to live.  Also in the audience was a cute lusty pair of lovers who provided the erotic juice for the night.  The hot babe turned out to be seventy one years old!  Also at one point a family with a kid came in.  I just told them there was nudity and eroticism in the piece.  They had no problem with that!  I have noticed from watching videos of performances in other countries that people bring their kids to edgy performances, unlike in this country.  

I had the student who had been a nurse read my poem OUT OF ISOLATION, which is about breaking out of the isolation of PROFESSIONALISM into warm human love.  She almost cried.  

Early in the piece, I had my poem NO CAN NOTS read.  I wrote it for a class of pre- med students.  It sums up what I was trying to get through to the psych students.  But the reading was garbled.  So here is the poem:

Rich Polysorbate, the drummer of L.A.’s Clowns & Fetuses, stirred the tribal heart. Mike Fluffgrrl’s slide guitarist, Barney Fluffgrrl’s Theremin wizard, and the trombonist from Los Banos created musical/emotional water slides into fuzzy altered states as Bob Madigan and Michael Peppe tickled the keys, joyfully grinning. Lena Strayhorn played various unique instruments, arousing sexy giggling thoughts. The E-Salon’s own Kay played with musical toys. I crashed the chimes when I wasn’t rubbing/dancing naked intimate sex into the jamming with Linda and Erika…when they weren’t tickling each other all-the-way into silliness or “getting” the band. One thing we didn't do which we kick ourselves for not doing is filming the person in her own clothes before playing.  When Lyn came, she looked so straight, almost like somebody's grandmother.  We didn't believe she would do anything.  But she turned out to be one hot babe!

For this one, the university's art department had just pulled its sponsorship of the performance series.  there were CANCELED signs all over the place! we replaced them and went in. my plan was to talk to the people who came to the performance in the hall outside the room. BUT THEY WERE WAXING THE HALLS! but the janitors, who recognized me from the first week, said we should go into the room...which was open, lights on...so, as i sometimes do,  i did as i was told! as each person entered, i warned them: "ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE SERIES HAS BEEN CANCELLED. THIS PERFORMANCE IS ILLEGAL. WE ARE TRESPASSING!" only the first couple hightailed it. the rest [maybe 12 people] just sat down outraged! and as we talked about the two censorings in one week...they got more outraged! i started reading the poems that i read outside the cafe. things got magical when i had different people read my poems while sitting beside me. marie read sexy. but things went beyond the frame when a guy....maybe of arab stock, maybe a slight c.p....read TORTURES. each event in the poem boiled his emotions more and more...so much so, he sometimes had to scream before going on! and when he got to the last line ["but all in all, life has been good!], he laughed deeply, almost out of control, in relief that life is indeed good! (we got all of it on video!)

We were insane!  We booked two gigs on the same night!  So after we did our piece at THE NOTE [see http://vimeo.com/3152650] with  the exceptions of Steve Davis and Eddie, we all headed to Il Corral to continue what we had started. On the drive there, we wolfed down sandwiches.

There, we added a toy instruments’ section with The Refrigerator Mothers’ (or were they hop-frog's drum jester devotional that night?) Carl F. Off, Jeremy Morelock (a.k.a. e.loi), Denise Owens (a.k.a. Volcanosis). This jam was really part two of what we had started at The Note. It had the same structure. But it lasted over 40 minutes…time enough to go into the tunnels of arousal opened up at The Note, time enough to press into wet grooves, exploring erotic intimate dark small quiet places, getting caught up into Vinnie’s driving heart beating, enjoying Steve’s hot licks, getting lost in Tomek’s passion squeezings, etc. In reality that night we did an hour jam not limited by space or time.  Very satisfying!

Exploring Of Possibilities Of Passion, January 31, 2003

This is the first performance of the 00’s series at the University of California Berkeley.  Actually this was the only “legal” performance of the series, sponsored by the art department.  This was after I was a guest lecturer at an art class [it turned out that both the art and theater departments taught about my work].  But after this performance, the local paper did a major cover story about me with a lot of nude photos [including the cover photo by Annie Sprinkle of nude Linda and clothed me (see http://www.eroplay.com/ebx/index.html )].  And the art department got cold feet and withdrew their sponsorship dramatically.  In fact we had to “trespass” in order to do the second performance!  Then I found a radical student who was willing to front for the series.

Back to this performance…  The actress who came to the performance to audition ended up working with me for the next couple of years.  In fact, she, Linda and I did a dance ritual so erotic and intimate it totally freaked out my pick up band.  During this dance they stopped playing, packed up their instruments and left!

Anyway, here is what I wrote at the time:  

The large studio room in the art department is ideal for performances. a lot of people came...over 40...a wide range of people. some were waiting when we arrived to set up. they were hungry!

I had a band of 2 saxophones and 1 drummer playing throughout. slides on the wall. marie kazalia in a see-through scarf read one of her poems every 5 minutes. teresa wandered around exploring people's bodies...hey, she's a blind lusty broad! another blind broad, maia...an extremely dynamic experimental dancer...kept the space physically charged with the unexpected. and linda dressed(?) in her ribbons dress. this was the background!

After some playing the audience (for an hour!), i settled on an actress (or was she really a plant?) who had come to check me out before auditioning for me. basically i put her through an audition right there. first i had her mirror the movements of the incredibly graceful "disabled" dancer neil marcus (just happened to be in the audience!)...she did great! then i asked her to do an extremely erotic dance ritual with me...and she eagerly jumped at the chance.

She went deep into gentle erotic intimacy with me...pulling the whole room into the rapture of just being human together. at some point, linda joined us to rock her. jack the drummer slowly circled us, ritually hitting a gong, deepening the trance. the ritual ended with a reading of my poem WRAPPING AND ROCKING.

12th Annual Hollywood Performance Marathon 2007

It felt like we were blasting the packed house into an altered state rather than sliding into a traveling trance with them. Looking later at the tape, it didn’t come off as a blast, but as a rich, complex experience. But as we were doing it, it felt like a high speed blast [which isn’t bad, just different]. Right from when they rolled me nude on stage after a minimal introduction [per my request] by the Guest celeb hostess Alison Arngrim (Nellie Olsen from LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE), There were a series of bits that I had to fit in to the twenty minutes…my solo chanting, my duet with Stephen Emanuel on the guitar…naked Linda and Erika joining the vocal/visual/erotic stew…then the music exploded deep with Tomek, Vinnie Santino on drums, Steve Davis on bass, Eddie on the keyboard, and Mikee moving around in his sexy costume videoing…but things had to move on, propelled by the music…rubbing skin on skin, rocking into each other, Linda and Erika tickling each other…all intimate fun…but no time to enter the tunnel of aroused exploring…time for Linda and Erika to “get” first the band and the very willing audience as I wailed. Then it was time to exit to thundering applause…which is a good thing in a theater!

A Midsummers Night Freakout

SPACE is a great little theater with bleacher seating. Lob put the show, A MIDSUMMERS NIGHT FREAK OUT, together. Lob and I have been doing things together for over 8 years. The night started rather peacefully, rather calmly, with Instagon playing jazzy trances. Like my band, Instagon is never the same line-up and never rehearsed together. This time Instagon was Lob on bass, Steve on guitar, Jim of The Shenanigoats on drums, Danny on trumpet, and another guy on the didgeridoo. Except for the didgeridoo-er, the rest would join my band for the night. When all was peaceful, BOTCHII messed it all up, blasting ultra-high energy punky noise assault. They are a trio of guitarist Tom Skowronskif and drummer Matthew “Lobster” Graybiel and Kevin Meecrob on pedals. They were simply mind-blowing great! Lobster would join The Cherotic All-Stars later, trading his drums for a mean guitar. Then after Botchii, a scary bunch of weirdos started setting up huge steel drums, power saws, giant puppets, etc. I smelled fresh danger of destruction. So I asked a member of UBERKUNST if we were safe sitting in the front row. We moved to the side! And Erika still got wounded in the chest by a flying shard of vinyl from Mary Martin’s South Pacific! UBERKUNST bills itself as “offensive fun, experimental music, noise ?music?, huge clumsy amateur theatrics and the scariest 13 person band on the planet.” Basically they presented your post-apocalyptic world where evil robots butt-rape and then disembowel humans (the disemboweling was rather whimpy!) … leading to a total chaotic destruction with a lot of banging, bashing, power saws grinding on metal drums, creating red hot showers of sparks. At the end everything was in ruin! Wendy O Williams would have been proud! From UBERKUNST, the “filthy bass” of Dire Deparra would join The Cherotic All-Stars’ jam!

So I had my work cut out for me! By Lob creating a brilliant line-up, he was forcing us to stretch, expand … take the night into soft, intimate, erotic trances … which is the opposite of UBERKUNST … but building on what had been created through out the night. To start I sat nude under strobes and slides, doing an emotional vocal solo for several minutes, moving, dancing, rocking back and forth. Then Linda and Erika naked except for pearls joined me in the moaning chant. They danced together, moving, pleasure rubbing deep into each other within infusion, soon enveloping me into the intimate body. Soon the rest of the band appeared, forming a semi-circle … Danny on Trumpet, Lob running around the stage banging on the tambourine, Steve Davis plucking his bass, Dr. Gruve blowing his harmonica, Dire pounding the bass, Lobster pushing his guitar, Tomek squeezing his accordion and playing other instruments, Jim beating the drums. At a certain point, Linda and Erika left me to cuddle with each band member, and then they went into the audience to cuddle with people as I wailed with the band. People are hungry for that deep human touch! When Linda and Erika got back to the stage, Erika tried to play clarinet…but quickly started moving with Linda again! The jam lasted over an hour.

This is a case of where the audience loved what we did, but the promoter was so freaked out and offended both by the naked eroticism and by the actual music.  We were not asked back!  The reason given was we were not NOISE!  funny, I have been playing with noise musicians since the mid eighties.  In fact this is when I met Steve Davis and his band +DOG+, establishing a long term musical relationship and friendship.  So...

The Uncomfortable Zones of Fun, October 22, 2011

Well, this one was like driving a bus!  Especially when we just did a performance last week and I really had not recovered.  I don’t mind driving a bus if we go to deep places, if the people are willing to risk themselves so we can go to unexplored territories.  At first it looked quite questionable.  There was a crip who wrote me a couple days before  wanting to study with me to learn how        to enjoy his life.  I told him that coming to the performance would be a great start.  But he wouldn’t come into the lights with the people even when I said that was where what he wanted was.  He finally left to avoid being a part of the rest of us in the lights!

The first part didn’t look good.  A lot of no’s!  Then magic started happening!  Rigid fragile shells started to crack, letting new questions and possibilities into the hearts of the people which clearly will change lives radically.  The people did this incomprehensible miracle, not me the bus driver.  They did not hold on to the fragile shells.  They took personal responsibility for following the new possibilities although that threatened their usual frames of reality outside of the performance.  Of course I did tricks to make it possible for them to go from rigid perpendicular individuals to a tribal body of nude dancing kids enjoying moving together flowing realizing their beauty.  But they did it, were responsible for it!  Thank heaven…  I was so tired I didn’t get nude!

The Union Of Erotic Passions

Well, this gig got us blacklisted from the San Francisco punk scene.  It was apparently that hot!  See for yourself!

Below is what I wrote at the time:

Apparently there was a controversy around our appearance. On RAMPAGE RADIO (the hard core all-night show hosted by Dirty Dave, Boom, and Bob) on KUSF early Sunday morning a "management" guy from CHERRY said "Frank Moore will not be nude at THE CHERRY" ... or some such nonsense. The fates prevented me from knowing about this until we got there ... LUVeR couldn't carry the show because their stream was down ... then Bob couldn't reach us to warn us because our phone was out. So I enter the club not loaded for bear. Hey, when Boom booked us, he told the lesbian owner what we do, and she said it was all cool. So I'm not clear about the power dynamics. But, although everyone was nice, there was a definite vibe that the whole hard core scene (not just us) were freaks from the wrong side of the tracks. Hey, we "queered the place," to use a term that our lesbian neighbor is fond of ... it was a night of TRANSFORMATIVE TRANGRESSION!

All through the night Bob kept muttering about what happened on RAMPAGE...but he always mutters like Popeye. So it wasn't until in the set of FLUFF GRRL(YMAN) ... which was their most powerful set I have seen ... that Bob in/as a song outlined what happened ... and that he bets that they wouldn't be able to stop Frank Moore! So what choice did I have?

When I had my clothes off, Boom gave us the official NO-NUDITY word ... that absurd duty over with, Boom half-jokingly (or was it quarter-jokingly?) said "well, no penetration then!" To that, Anne Madigan asked if that meant that she couldn't stick her finger in my ear. And I don't know if Bob's sucking / blowing my cock as a flute violated this no-penetration rule. Bob didn't do much of that Sunday night. He said that was because my balls were sweaty. That has never stopped him before! It was the first FLUFF GRRL gig I've seen that Bob didn't drop his pants and set fire to his pubes. Was it because of the threatened limiting vibes? I don't know. Did the nude explicit sweaty orgasmic rubbing rocking erotic dance Linda and I did together violate the no-penetration rule? I won't tell! That's what the slow motion and zoom buttons on your player are for! But a lot of what we do in bars is breaking actual laws covering venues serving liquor.and not just penetration. Of course in the 30+ years that we have been "transgressing" in clubs, there has not been a single raid, etc. (DARN!) But the club should be committed to the risky art presented. I talked to Boom tonight.and he assured me that CHERRY wants the scene there and has no problem with what we did. notwithstanding what I wrote above. I hope he's right!

I started the set singing alone on the floor I AM WOMAN.hey, CHERRY was supposed to be a lesbian bar. Then Bob did the skin flute on me as the rest of the band took their positions. I heard a real flute. It wasn't Bob, but Erika in an open robe. She was prevented from erotic dancing by an evil case of poison oak. Only half of the band, numbering 15 members, could fit on the stage. So the other half spilled on to the floor on either side me. After Bob had his way with me, I turned around to face toward the band, creating a communal ritual circle. Musically and erotically it got sweaty fast, people playing off, feeding off, of one another.changing instruments, doing vocals, becoming a molten musical mass. We had all of FLUFF GRRL plus Anne, the bass player and the lead singer of Violent Discharge (the second band of the night).who poured blood on me! Andy brought his Sousaphone and his guitarist friend Joel to be in the stew. Topless Dr. Gruve blew himself and his harp into one giant sweat bead trance of bliss, followed close behind by the madman Michael Peppe.

Things kept being melting down to bluesy intimate touch moan exchange for about an hour. It was the deepest into the musical unknown we have ventured into in our jamming.

Why do I pop up in cameo roles in others' pieces involving animals and which became historical /controversial?  In the eighties I was in THE FEEDERZ DEAD CAT /DOG gig!  And now this EXTREME ELVIS chicken act!  Although I got E.  E.  this gig in THE DADA FEST, I first actually physically met him backstage before the show.  Before I had seen his online videos of him pissing and shitting on his audience members and we emailed each other.  He asked me backstage if I would be the translator for his act.  He wanted to tell me something about his act.  But I stopped him, because my knowing would block everything!  So when the feathers instead of shit began to fly, I just continued my Dizzy Dean [look him up!] impersonation.

Exploring The Taboos Of Intimate Fun - October 15, 2011

The audience for this one was sweet [both genders, even the two street stand-up comedians].  They were basically ready to go deep into their dreams of how things should be.  Some of them were already focused on doing this in their regular lives, especially the three who are in an art collective together.  So it was relatively easy to get the tribal intimacy to the surface.  This was further lubricated by the music by Tomek and the general open environment of THE CENTER FOR SEX AND CULTURE. There was even the deaf mute who has come to my performances several times before.  He tends to root everything.    But when we were preparing to go into physical rituals of intimacy, a guy released the virus of fear basically to call attention to himself and to sabotage things, as he admitted later.  He took the mic and said he would not take his clothes off because of the video camera.  Of course he has been coming to my performances for years, all of which were videod.  Moreover I had an audience member undress the camera guy among other things to draw attention to the fact that he was videoing the performance.  Although some people caught the virus and joined the band, the tribal body didn’t let the virus sidetrack the deepening joyful intimacy.  This was especially true for one of the three from the art collective who rocked on my lap juicy human warmth without limits arousing pleasure prickly rubbing bodies together flowing into Linda smoothly becoming one body.  So I would say we defeated fear at this performance!  And what more can you ask of a performance?

Well, this one is one of those I have no memory of doing.  Watching it now I can see why.  No juice even though a lot of nudity.  I didn't used the footage in either of the two films.  Hey, they can't all be magic!

Also from watching this, I realized the numbering of  the nonfilm sessions isn't correct.  We got three or four sessions on a tape [using the six hour speed].  But we only numbered the tapes when I was ready to edit about two years after we started.  So...
